Damiano von Erckert has done much to change perception of his hometown, Cologne. His label, ava., which he launched back in 2011, has shown that the city can do house as well as it can techno. With his own releases on ava., Erckert has reached deep into the past for inspiration — forging a soulful and warm house sound that’s unmistakably feel-good.
In September, he released his second solo LP, ‘Also Known As Good’, which weaved together soul samples, disco, funk and hip-hop in his own characteristic style. He’s also recently moved from Cologne to London, treating us to sets at Peckham’s Bussey Building and Hackney clubs Shapes and Bloc.
It’s fitting that Erckert has delivered a celebratory selection of house, disco and funk for his latest podcast — we reckon it would go down a storm at a house party. Listen below:
